General Refining Corp. Earns Certification for 100% Recycled Content Precious Metals by SCS Global Services

Leading third-party certifier SCS Global Services (SCS) announced that it has certified General Refining Corporation’s (GRC) Fine Green Gold, Platinum, and Silver products as being made from 100% post-consumer recycled sources.  This certification provides independent reassurance to GRC’s customers that none of these products were sourced from mining operations or conflict zones. 

The certification audits, completed for gold in November 2014 and for platinum and silver in March 2015, involved a detailed examination of GRC’s policies and processes for sourcing, tracking, and refining metals.  The auditor evaluated GRC’s supply chain to qualify suppliers as providers of post-consumer recycled material as well as their “Anti-Money Laundering” and “Know Your Customer” procedures.

“Although third-party certification isn’t required in our industry, we wanted to take this voluntary measure to demonstrate our commitment to using post-consumer recycled sources,” said Peter Spera, GRC President.  “We are pleased to be able to share this good news with our customers, and to do our part to reduce reliance on mining operations and their associated environmental and social impacts.”

 “We congratulate GRC on its certification accomplishment,” said Alicia Godlove, Manager of Material Services in SCS’s Environmental Certification Services unit.  “Its reliance on recycled metals is environmentally beneficial, helping to reduce pressure to mine raw materials from the earth.”

GRC launched its precious metals refining business in the mid-1970s.  GRC is unusual among precious metals refiners, focusing on post-consumer sources, such as used jewelry, pawn shops, medical and dental recyclers, and flatware. More than 16,000 troy ounces of recycled metals are refined annually.

GRC’s third-party certification assures that a reasonable “country of origin” inquiry has been completed to determine that Green Gold products are from recycled sources, in compliance with the Conflict Mineral Declaration required under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, Section 1502.
