Evutec® Certified for Use of Wood from Responsibly Managed Forests
SCS Global Services Certifies Evutec Cellphone Cases under Forest Stewardship Council® Chain of Custody Standard
Evutec Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high quality mobile phone and tablet cases, has recently earned Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain-of-custody certification for its mobile phone cases, based on an assessment conducted by SCS Global Services (SCS), an internationally recognized third-party certification body. The cases are made of FSC-certified wood, such as bamboo and white ash, from well-managed forests. They fit a wide range of cellphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6, officially released last week.
“Evutec’s achievement of FSC certification is a reflection of its commitment to sustainable design and manufacturing,” said Robert J. Hrubes, Executive Vice President at SCS. “Evutec’s smartphone cases are enabling consumers to make choices that directly reinforce responsible forestry practices.”
Structurally, the Evutec cases are designed to be sleek yet durable. To accomplish this, a unique blend of high tech substances and organic materials are woven together with wood veneer to create a strong case that is resistant to warping from heat and moisture. These signature wooden cases set an important precedent for companies in the tech industry seeking to build sustainability into their products through durable design and innovative uses of responsibly sourced materials. They will be available in Apple® retail stores in October.
“We strive to integrate sustainability into our design process, not only by seeking out responsibly sourced materials and reducing consumption-related impacts, but by creating products that are durable in both a physical and stylistic sense,” said David Rojas, Director of Design at Evutec Corporation. “Great design eliminates the need for a revolving door of cell phone cases by essentially increasing their life span and consequently reducing the environmental impact of production.”
“Achieving FSC Chain of Custody certification and developing new ways to recycle composite materials for use in new products are two of the ways we can demonstrate to our customers that Evutec is fully committed to environmental sustainability,” said Melanie Kerns, Evutec Marketing Designer, adding that the company also engages its supply chain in joint efforts to promote durable design and manufacturing under its proprietary “Ecology United with Technology” design approach.
