This accomplishment is a critical milestone in the company's pursuit of certifying 10,000 Greener Stores globally by 2025. Greener Stores, now present in 44 markets, including new additions like India, Hong Kong, and New Zealand, contribute to Starbucks' broader environmental goals of reducing carbon emissions, water usage, and landfill waste by 50% by 2030. These stores are certified based on a framework developed with the World Wildlife Fund and SCS Global Services, focusing on eight environmental impact areas such as water stewardship, energy efficiency, and waste diversion.
Each Greener Store features sustainable elements ranging from solar panels and rainwater harvesting systems to high-efficiency appliances and low-emission materials. These initiatives have already led to substantial operational savings, with US Greener Stores alone saving Starbucks nearly $60 million annually. The company also launched its inaugural global Greener Stores of the Year program, recognizing stores that excel in innovation and environmental impact. Starbucks remains committed to expanding its Greener Stores initiative, aiming to inspire more sustainable practices across its global footprint.
